Jon Garside and Ryan Liu receives defense verdict for their client.

Stanton | Barton is proud to announce that partner Jon Garside and associate Ryan Liu recently won a complete defense verdict for their client, a St. Charles County hospital, in a medical negligence lawsuit.

The plaintiff claimed that exposure to multiple allergens during surgery, while under general anesthesia, resulted in a severe burn-like reaction on his bicep. Prior to the surgery, the plaintiff had disclosed allergies to latex and adhesives. Although medical records appeared to show exposure to these substances, Jon and Ryan presented compelling evidence demonstrating that the plaintiff had not been exposed to the allergens. They further established that the reaction was due to an unrelated cause for which the medical providers were not liable. Jon identified and prepared a dermatologist, who had never previously testified as an expert witness, to provide testimony. This expert, having studied the specific type of reaction the plaintiff claimed, testified compellingly that the injury was unrelated to anything used during the surgery. After several hours of deliberation, the jury returned a verdict in favor of all the defendants.
